How To Choose The Best Cutting Board For Meat
What is the best cutting board for meat? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked that question at cookery workshops. You see, cutting boards come in so many different shapes and sizes, it can be difficult to identify which one is the best for cutting your meat. In this article I’ll briefly review the best cutting boards and their various pros and cons.
Best Cleaning Wood Cutting Boards: Heat, moisture and bacteria build up in the kitchen as quickly as it dries out. This is why you should consider investing in a good cutting board that uses ceramic glaze. Ceramic glazing allows food particles to dry more quickly, meaning meat will be cut more cleanly and quicker. A high-quality cutting board should also have a stainless steel blade and be dishwasher safe. Ideally, you should clean your wood cutting board by hand every few days, though you should empty all of the liquid before you do so.
Different Types of Wood Cutting Boards

There are many different types of cutting boards out there. These include board-mounted, handheld, and stand-up boards. These different types of boards offer different levels of safety and ease of use. Here I’ll review each type of cutting board and why it might be the best choice for your kitchen counter.
Butcher Blocks

As the name suggests, butcher blocks are a solid board made from several different types of hardwood. Common choices are maple, ash, birch and oak. The thickness of the boards varies, from six inches thick to twelve inches thick. Because the blocks are solid, they provide support for your chopping knives.
Plastic Cutting Boards

Similar to butcher blocks, plastic cutting boards can be purchased in most home improvement stores. Most of these boards are pre-painted or stained with a variety of colors. They are usually about three to four inches thick and have two to three slots for chopping knives. These boards are easy to clean, but may contain small holes that can cause splinters if the knives accidentally get stuck inside. Because of this, you should avoid plastic cutting boards for use on the kitchen table.
Glass Board

Like plastic cutting boards, glass boards are available in most home improvement stores. Like plastic, they are pre-painted or stained in various colors. They are usually about three to four inches thick and have two to three slots for utensils to fit into. Like plastic, you should avoid using these for cutting raw meat, since they can cause injury if cut incorrectly.
Wood Cutting Boards

While you can purchase various wood cutting boards at your local home improvement store, try to stick with redwood. This wood is the hardest and will not burn as easily as some of the other types of wood. If you are looking for a board that is durable and able to resist bacteria and heat, then redwood would be a good choice. If you choose to use wood, be sure to use a professional wood cutting board and knife. Some homeowners prefer to use cheap kitchen knives that do not meet the highest standards. By purchasing quality tools, you are ensuring that your family will be safe.
Juice Cutting Board

If you are looking for a cutting board that is best used for juicing, then you would be better off using stainless steel juice boards. These are durable and will cut through juices without being damaged. Juice is important to many people, and a cutting board that is durable and will last is essential when cutting these juices. There are certain foods that contain high levels of acidity, which will cause serious damage to other foods if they are cut with a low-quality cutting board.
Meat Cutting Board

If you are looking for the best cutting boards for meat, then you will want to choose a board that is made specifically for this purpose. There are meat cutting boards that have a special blade that cuts the fat away from the meat, which will allow you to carve more easily and faster. There are also meat carving boards that come in a variety of sizes so you can cut your meat in specific sizes, which will help you get perfect pieces.
These are three of the most common types of cutting boards that people use when they are cutting raw meat. The ones listed above are the most popular, but there are other types of cutting boards that you may be interested in. When you shop around and compare different cutting boards, you will have an easier time picking out the right one for your needs
